On April 8, the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China released Announcement No. 100 of the National Office for Science & Technology Awards and announced the preliminary evaluation results on the Public Service Platform of National Science and Technology Information System. A total of 59 projects for the State Natural Science Award, 52 general projects for the State Technological Invention Award, and 132 general projects for the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award were recognized. As primary affiliations, institutions from Shandong Province, such as universities, hospitals, and research organizations, have been selected in the preliminary round of the 2023 State Science and Technology Awards with entries for one State Natural Science Award, one State Technological Invention Award, and four State Scientific and Technological Progress Awards.

Among these, the project "Study on the Structure and Variation Mechanisms of the Western Pacific Circulation" was nominated for the State Natural Science Award, and the project "Complete Technology and Equipment for Industrialization of Thousand-Ton Level Textile Algae Fiber" made it into the State Technological Invention Award nominations. The projects "Development and Application of New High-Yield, High-Quality, Drought-Resistant Peanut Varieties", "Intelligent Numerical Testing and Control Key Technologies and Industrialization for High-capacity Battery Energy Storage Systems", "Critical Mechanisms and Clinical Application of Lung Cancer Treatment Combining Radiation Therapy with Molecular Targeting and Immunotherapy", and "Intelligent Numerical and Highly Efficient Integrated Technologies and Engineering Applications for Deep Coal Mining" were nominated for the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award.
