Shandong promotes green energy growth

Shandong has been promoting the construction of new energy and renewable energy projects in the province during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), as part of its efforts to balance economic development and environmental concerns, said local officials.

Official data showed that the installed capacity of photovoltaic power generation in Shandong reached 21.35 million kilowatts last year, with a year-on-year growth of 14.2 percent, ranking first in China.

The province's installed biomass power generation capacity reached 3.29 million kilowatts, with a year-on-year growth of 11.6 percent, ranking first in China.

A total of 23 wind power projects were completed and put into operation in 2019, with the installed capacity of wind power reaching 15.84 million kilowatts, an increase of 10.5 percent year on year, ranking fourth in China.

The province is also promoting the comprehensive utilization of nuclear energy, hydrogen energy, and energy storage.

The installed capacity of nuclear power under construction in Shandong has reached 5.7 million kilowatts. It has built nine hydrogen refueling stations and put more than 260 fuel-cell vehicles into operation.
