Shandong's consumer market saw a strong rebound during the Spring Festival holiday, with retail sales hitting a record high, according to local officials.

According to data from the Shandong Provincial Department of Commerce, the sales of 505 key retail enterprises monitored in the province were valued at 4.4 billion yuan ($681.87 million) over the week-long holiday, up 40.12 percent year on year, while consumption among 11 categories of goods saw positive growth.
Local consumption of food, beverages, tobacco and alcohol products, clothing, shoes and hats, and needles and textiles grew by 15.63 percent, 32.69 percent, 62.95 percent, 116.25 percent, 75.59 percent, and 22.43 percent, respectively.
Sales of automobiles rose 65.28 percent year on year, while sales of home appliances and audio equipment rose 39.35 percent.
Local authorities said that the province held a series of activities to stimulate domestic demand and consumption via both online and offline channels during the Spring Festival.
