The Shandong Provincial People's Government and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs recently issued a five-year plan (2021-25) to transform Shandong into a modern agricultural powerhouse.
According to the plan, by 2025, the total output value of the agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery industries in Shandong is expected to reach over 1.3 trillion yuan ($203.45 billion) while the added value of the local agriculture sector will exceed 690 billion yuan. The per capita disposable income of rural residents will increase by an average of more than 7 percent annually, and over 80 percent of agriculture-related counties, cities and districts in Shandong will achieve agricultural modernization.
Shandong is a big agricultural province and its total agricultural output value, agricultural product processing industrial output value, and agricultural product exports volume are ranked first in the country.
The transformation of Shandong from a traditional agricultural province to a modern agricultural powerhouse will be pivotal to achieving high-quality development in the agriculture sector in China, said authorities.
Shandong will strive to increase overall agricultural production capacity to ensure supply, promote scientific and technological progress, develop rural industries to enrich the people, promote green agricultural development, expand international agricultural cooperation, and deepen rural reform.
