According to the latest statistics released by the Qingdao Administration for Market Regulation, 1,111 foreign-funded enterprises were established in Qingdao in 2021, up 6.52% year on year. There had been a total of 13,971 foreign-funded enterprises in Qingdao as of December 31, 2021, up 2.34% year on year.

The foreign-funded enterprises established in 2021 have a total registered capital of 30.311 billion U.S. dollars. Among them, 390 enterprises (accounting for 35.1%) have a registered capital of at least 10 million U.S. dollars each, up 16.77% year on year.

The tertiary sector came on top with 956 foreign-funded enterprises established in 2021, accounting for 86.05% of the total. The top three industries in this sector were wholesale and retail trade, leasing and business services, scientific research and technology services. 148 foreign-funded enterprises were established in the secondary sector in 2021, including 123 manufacturing enterprises. Chengyang District, West Coast New Area and Shinan District were the top three districts by the number of newly-established foreign-funded enterprises, accounting for 44.64% of the total.

There were a total of 653 foreign-funded enterprises from the "Belt and Road" countries in Qingdao in 2021, up 8.65% year on year, including 73 newly-established ones, up 8.96% year on year.
