The Department of Science & Technology of Shandong Province published the 2022 list of 25 planned provincial technological innovation centers, including the Shandong Provincial Semiconductor Laser Technological Innovation Center.

Relevant enterprises will take the lead in building these centers, including seven enterprises in modern efficient agriculture, five high-end equipment enterprises, four new material enterprises, four enterprises engaged in the new generation of information technology, two enterprises in environmental protection, two medical care and health enterprises, and one high-end chemical enterprise. Pursuant to the Construction Plan of Shandong Provincial Technological Innovation Centers, the provincial technological innovation centers to be built with enterprises taking the lead will be subsidized with provincial financial funds of 5 million yuan; those built with universities, colleges, or research institutes taking the lead will be subsidized with provincial financial funds of 10 million yuan. These 25 centers will receive a total subsidy of 125 million yuan.

Provincial technological innovation centers undertake the mission to break technical bottlenecks, improve technological innovation ability in key areas, and facilitate industrial upgrading to medium and high-end development. Previously, Shandong had approved 106 provincial technological innovation centers.
