The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) of the People's Republic of China has announced the list of 45 national advanced manufacturing clusters. Three clusters in Shandong are included in the list, namely the smart home appliance cluster in Qingdao, the rail transit equipment cluster in Qingdao, and the power equipment cluster in Weifang.
The MIIT's competition of advanced manufacturing clusters is considered a national trial for advanced manufacturing clusters. The 45 national clusters generated an output value of RMB 19 trillion in the leading industries in 2021 and built 18 national centers for manufacturing industry innovation, equal to 70 percent of China's total. With over 1,700 national technological innovation carriers, the clusters have cultivated more than 170 national single champion enterprises and 2,200 national "little giant" enterprises, providing important support for the high-quality development of the manufacturing industry.
In the following three years, Shandong will identify about 20 provincial advanced manufacturing clusters as the effective force for building national advanced manufacturing clusters. In this regard, efforts will be focused on promoting the development of the biological medicine cluster in Jinan, the green petrochemical industrial cluster in Yantai, and the aluminum industrial cluster in Binzhou.
