Shandong Builds 12 "Gigabit Cities", Ranking Second Nationwide

Shandong's years-long efforts to advance new digital infrastructure and promote Gigabit City construction have paid off. According to Shandong Communications Administration, Shandong Province is now home to 12 "Gigabit Cities", including Jinan, Qingdao, Yantai and Zibo, ranking second in the country and home to 8.017 million households that use gigabit internet services, ranking third in the country.

As an important component and foundation of new infrastructure, the "double gigabit" networks represented by 5G networks and gigabit optical networks enjoy great potential in stimulating effective investment, promoting information consumption and boosting digital economic development. As the "double gigabit" networks make improvements in integration, innovation, and application, a solid digital foundation has been laid for Shandong Province to deepen the replacement of old growth drivers with new ones and promote green, low-carbon high-quality development. Up to now, Shandong has built a total of 162,000 5G base stations, realizing that the "double gigabit" networks cover all administrative regions at or above the county level, and the coverage rate of gigabit optical networks in urban households has exceeded 130%.
