On February 15, the signing and unveiling ceremony of the co-construction agreement of the Decade Collaborative Centre for Ocean-Climate Nexus and Coordination (DCC-OCC) was held in Qingdao. The DCC-OCC was jointly promoted by the Ministry of Natural Resources, the People's Government of Shandong Province, and the Qingdao Municipal People's Government. The official inauguration of China's only Ocean Decade Collaborative Centre and the simultaneous opening of the only DCC-OCC in Asia mark a new stage of China's participation in global ocean governance.
After the official operation, the DCC-OCC will give full play to the five major platforms: marine technological innovation and resource agglomeration, modern marine industry cultivation, cooperative construction of marine ecology, international shipping trade and financial innovation, and international marine affairs exchanges. It will explore the path to integrate the marine economy into important regional cooperation mechanisms, such as the China-SCO Local Economic and Trade Cooperation Demonstration Area (SCODA), the Qingdao Area of China (Shandong) Pilot Free Trade Zone, and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). Shandong will accelerate the construction of high-level platforms such as the National Deep-sea Gene Bank, the National Deep-sea Big Data Center, and the National Deep-sea Specimen Sample Repository, continuously enhance the capacity of the source of marine scientific and technological innovation, and provide conditions for Qingdao to lead the construction of a modern marine industry system and build a global modern marine industry center.
