Recently, Shandong Province issued the Notice of the General Office of Shandong Provincial People's Government on Printing and Distributing the Three-year Action Plan for the Construction of a World-class Port Cluster in Shandong Province (2023-2025). The document has specified Shandong's overall goal of building a world-class port cluster from 2023 to 2025 and six major improvement actions and supporting measures to achieve the goal, thus offering comprehensive planning for Shandong's port construction and development for the next three years.
As per the document, in the three years to come, Shandong will work to form a development pattern with Qingdao Port which is an international shipping hub as the center, Rizhao Port and Yantai Port which are major national ports as the two wings, and Weihai Port, Weifang Port, Dongying Port and Binzhou Port which are important regional ports as the support. Meanwhile, these ports will maintain close cooperation with those in Tianjin, Hebei, Jiangsu, and Liaoning. Thus, Shandong aims to provide a strong driving force for guiding and advancing the high-quality development of the Shandong Peninsula city cluster and the Yellow River basin and promoting the "dual circulation" of domestic and international markets. By 2025, the cargo throughput of coastal ports in the province will exceed 2 billion tons and the container throughput will exceed 40 million TEUs. Moreover, Qingdao Port will occupy a place in the front rank of world-class maritime ports and see a constant improvement in its ranking; Rizhao Port and Yantai Port will accelerate the development of world-class maritime ports; other ports will enjoy remarkable overall improvement in their development level.
