On September 27, the Opening Ceremony of the 2023 China (Qufu) International Confucius Cultural Festival and the Awarding Ceremony of the 18th UNESCO Confucius Prize for Literacy were held at the University Hall of Nishan Sacred Land in Qufu City, Shandong Province. Zhou Naixiang, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Shandong Provincial Committee and Governor of Shandong Province, attended the event and delivered a speech.
Zhou Naixiang said in his speech that Shandong shoulders important responsibilities for promoting the creative transformation and innovative development of fine traditional Chinese culture and building the modern civilization of the Chinese nation. He also mentioned that the UNESCO Confucius Prize for Literacy has been widely praised by the international community and the winners have made great contributions to promoting Confucius' educational thinking and developing education in worldwide countries.
Specifically, this year's UNESCO Confucius Prize for Literacy was given to the "Empowering remote and climate vulnerable communities with digital literacy" programme from Bangladesh, the "Peaceful Communities" programme from Uganda, and the "My Very Own Library" programme from the Dominican Republic.
