At the Launching Conference of the Shandong Provincial Pilot Program for Sci-tech Talent Evaluation Comprehensive Reform held recently, Sun Haisheng, Director of the Department of Science & Technology of Shandong Province, stated that as one of the six pilot regions in China, Shandong has received approval from the Ministry of Science and Technology for its pilot reform program and officially launches the program now.

According to the Shandong Provincial Pilot Program for Sci-tech Talent Evaluation Comprehensive Reform, Shandong Province has identified 20 pilot units with full coverage of higher educational institutions, scientific research institutes, major sci-tech innovation platforms, medical institutions, as well as sci-tech enterprises. It strives to create some typical experiences and institutional documents that can be replicated and promoted at various levels.

Under the overall framework of the national pilot reform program, Shandong's pilot program has further clarified the pilot tasks and outcome forms regarding four major categories of talents in Shandong Province. Four institutions including Shandong University are pilot units for the evaluation reform of talents who undertake major research tasks at the national and provincial levels. The evaluation shall highlight the support for national security, breakthroughs in core technologies, and the solution to major problems in economic and social development.
