On February 1, the 2024 Shandong Provincial Sci-tech Work Conference was held in Jinan to review and summarize the sci-tech work carried out in Shandong Province in 2023 and systematically arrange the work in 2024.

According to relevant information, Shandong comprehensively promoted the in-depth integration of sci-tech development with industries in 2023. The R&D investment across the entire society witnessed an increase of more than 10% for two consecutive years. Besides, Shandong deployed innovation chains around industrial chains and achieved some landmark results in supercomputing interconnection and other fields. More than 6,000 high-tech enterprises were newly established, bringing the total number to over 32,000. In 2023, the output value of Shandong Province's high-tech industries above the designated size accounted for 51.35% of the output value of industries above the designated size, marking a year-on-year increase of 3.09 percentage points.

In 2024, Shandong plans to achieve an increase of more than 10% in R&D investment across the entire society and establish seven national key laboratories to bring the total number to 28. Additionally, it will set up 2-3 provincial-level laboratories in various fields such as the new generation of information technology and high-end equipment manufacturing. About 200 provincial-level key laboratories will undergo optimization and restructuring. Shandong also plans to introduce more than 4,000 high-level sci-tech talents. It aims to enable the number of high-tech enterprises to exceed 35,000 and that of sci-tech small and medium-sized enterprises to exceed 50,000.
