Yantai High-Tech Industrial Development Zone is a state-level high-tech development zone, one of the first batch of APEC scientific industrial parks, China's first China-Russia high-tech industrialization cooperation demonstration base and one of core carriers of national self-innovation demonstration zones of Shandong Peninsula. There are "one zone and four parks" inside including Core Development Zone, APEC Laishan Park, Fushan High-tech Park, APEC Zhifu Park and Wolong Park.
The Zone enjoys a prime geographical locality and a beautiful natural environment.
Conveniently located in the vicinity of Yantai's administrative center, the Zone is 15 km away from Yantai Railway Station and Port of Yantai, and 6 km away from Yantai Penglai International Airport. With such a prime locality, it has enjoyed easy accessibility to major cities at home and over 100 countries abroad by airport, marine and land traffic links and thus has fostered trade connections with them. Built along the coastline, the Zone is part of Yantai's charming shore. In addition, it enjoys a planned green area accounting for more than 35% of the Zone's total, an annual average temperature of 12 ℃ and the year-round national first-level air quality.

The Zone has cultivated a batch of high-tech enterprises with independent intellectual property rights and bright development prospects and achieved the cluster development of bio-medicine, marine science and technology, aviation and aerospace science and technology, electronic information, advanced equipment manufacturing and other competitive industries. Meanwhile, a large number of major and promising projects are developing faster than ever. They include Shandong International Biotechnology Park with a total investment of RMB 6 billion, Green Leaves International Medical Science and Technology Industrial Park with a total investment of RMB 1 billion, Yantai CIMC Marine Engineering Research Institute with a total investment of RMB 1 billion, Dongfang Intelligence Science and Technology Park with a total investment of RMB 1 billion, Comprehensive R&D and Production Base for Titanium Alloy Fastener with a total investment of RMB 800 million and Tuopubang Biotechnology Park with a total investment of RMB 600 million. Thus, the Zone has been emerging as a leading and demonstration highland for the development of Yantai's high-tech and new industries.

With eight universities including Yantai University, Shandong Technology and Business University and China Agricultural University (Yantai Campus), and seventeen above-province-level research institutes including Yantai Institute of Coastal Zone Research Chinese Academy of Sciences, the No. 513 Institute of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp, Institute of Computing Technology of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Yantai) and Advanced Manufacture Technology Center of China Academy of Machinery Science & Technology inside and around it, the Zone has developed a R&D edge in bio-technology, bio-medicine, advanced manufacturing, new materials, marine science and other fields and can provide strong talents and research support for the development of enterprises. At present, a relatively complete innovation and entrepreneur service system covering incubators, technological innovation service platforms, science and technology agencies, as well as investment and financing organizations has taken shape. Comprehensive incubators such as the Pioneer Building in the scientific and technological CBD and the Sino-Russia Science and Technology Park, and professional incubators for bio-technology and bio-medicine, software and information technology, and marine engineering have a total area of 500,000 m² under construction currently. By 2015, the total area of all kinds of incubators and accelerators inside will cross 1,000,000 m². The Zone has constructed, managed and operated all newly-built incubators according to the standard for state-level enterprise incubators, aiming to develop at least three state-level enterprise incubators within five years.
