As a large marine province with a more- than-3,500-kilometers-long coastline and a nearly-160,000-square-kilometers marine land area, Shandong ranks first in China in terms of the marine resource abundance index. Shandong adheres to the overall planning of land and sea resources and integrated development of river and sea resources, carries out in-depth comprehensive governance of key sea areas, strengthens total nitrogen control of rivers entering the sea and regulation of sewage outlets into the sea, continuously strengthens marine ecological protection, and comprehensively promotes marine ecological restoration.
In recent years, the quality of Shandong's marine ecological environment has been significantly improved. The proportion of excellent water quality in the coastal sea areas of the province has stabilized at about 90%. Marine biodiversity has gradually been restored. Beautiful blue sea and sky scenery has made Shandong's calling card of marine ecology more famous.
Organically combining the regulation of sewage outlets into the sea with the promotion of green and sustainable marine development, Shandong has guided aquaculture enterprises and farmers to transform from "rough diversion and discharge operation" to energy conservation and discharge reduction, from single-layer aquaculture to multi-layer aquaculture, from focusing on only aquaculture to integrating breeding and aquaculture, and from disorderly discharge to centralized management. By taking multiple measures, Shandong has worked to promote the regulation of tailwater outlets for marine aquaculture.
