Recently, four departments including the Shandong Provincial Medical Products Administration and the Shandong Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs jointly issued the Opinions on Implementing the Production Quality Management Standards for Chinese Medicinal Materials, specifying that by 2025, the bulk Daodi medicinal materials in Shandong Province presented by "lu shi wei" (10 selected Daodi medicinal materials and characteristic medicinal materials in Shandong) should reach a certain scale of ecological and standardized cultivation.

The Opinions adhere to the development idea of producing Daodi medicinal materials with improved varieties while seeking standardization and branding, so as to build Shandong's own brands of Daodi medicinal materials and characteristic medicinal materials. In order to strengthen the management of germplasm resources of Chinese medicinal materials, Shandong will establish a provincial-level Daodi medicinal material resource bank and 10 provincial-level medicinal plant germplasm resource nurseries, select 2 to 3 excellent varieties for cultivation, and build 3 to 5 seed and seedling production bases. Meantime, Shandong will improve the level of standardized cultivation of Chinese medicinal materials, promote green, high-quality, and efficient production technologies, and accelerate the extraction and integration of key technologies focusing on the three advantageous Daodi varieties, namely golden-and-silver honeysuckle, red sage, and American ginseng.

Furthermore, it will nurture Shandong's characteristic medicine brands such as Pingyi Golden-and-silver Honeysuckle, Wendeng American Ginseng, Heze Tree Peony Bark, Juxian Baikal Skullcap Root, Laiyang Coastal Glehnia Root, Pingyin Rose, and Qingzhou Hawthorn, promote the guiding role of the governments of the places of origin, and organize events such as the "Qilu Characteristic Chinese Medicinal Material Harvest Season".
